Model Police Station Project

Another undertaking is called the Model Police Station Project which aims to integrate and showcase reforms and best practices in policing within a defined locality under the jurisdiction of a city or municipal police office.

Through the project, we will gradually improve facilities, equipment, training of personnel, and the quality of services rendered by our police stations. Technical assistance for...

project is provided by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the U.P. National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP-NCPAG).

There are ten (10) pilot sites for the Model Police Station Project. Initial studies and preliminary activities have already been undertaken in Marikina Police Station --- our first pilot police station. Marikina police station had been given priority slots for training. To date, at least 179 personnel including representatives from QCPD and Aklan Police Provincial Office have undergone re-training in community policing, crime scene investigation and instructor development.

mps2.jpg The US Department of Justice has committed to conduct and finance trainings for police personnel from the Model Police Stations sites under its International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP).

Currently, the ICITAP offers our PNP personnel a two-layered training program which covers basic training courses such as: Instructor Development Course, Basic Crime Scene Investigation, Community Policing, First Line Supervision, Police Ethics, Civil Disturbance Management, and Human Rights and Dignity; and advance courses in Criminal Investigation, Interviews and Interrogation, Crimes Against Women and Children, Trafficking in Persons, Internal investigations, Mid-Level Management, and Women in Policing. The US government has committed a total of Php200 million to support this initial four-year program.

Much-needed computers and other office equipment were procured for use by Marikina police station using UNDP funds. The Directorate for Logistics also provided an additional patrol car to add to the mobility assets of the station.

mps4.jpgRecently, the United Kingdom has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the PNP to support the Marawi Police Station – 2nd pilot site of the MPS Project. The British Embassy in Manila has donated Php2.3 million for capacity building and peace advocacy for our Marawi City police personnel. The Marawi City government, on the other hand, has pledged to donate a hectare of land as a new site for the city’s police headquarters.
